Vanguard Distributors, Inc., was formed in 1984 by Sylvester C. Formey in historic Savannah, Georgia.

The name Vanguard Distributors, Inc., was chosen in order to reflect the mission and philosophy of the company. According to Webster's Dictionary, Vanguard is "the part of an army which goes ahead of the main body." This name reflected Formey's goals of being in the forefront to create diverse supply alternatives for companies and to be on the cutting edge in business environment changes.

The company was created to provide Safety products on the premise of competition. Incidentally and secondarily, Vanguard Distributors, Inc., is a Minority owned company.

Vanguard has undergone tremendous growth and has expanded into a number of related business endeavors. We added Laboratory Supplies and have become one of the largest dealer/resellers for Fisher Scientific Company. Vanguard has numerous accounts with Fortune 500 companies where we are the Integrator and Sole Source for Safety Equipment and Laboratory Supplies. Total MRO Integrated Supply Management was a natural step that we took in the last half of 1999. Vanguard Distributors, Inc., has won many local and national awards over the years that are an indication of our commitment to quality and service.
